ENCAUSTIC ART by Helen Hawkins
The Poseidon Hotel is furnished with original encaustic artworks by Helen Hawkins.
Over 2000 years ago the ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Romans used coloured wax as a painting medium. It was melted, dyed and used to create artwork. From ancient art is born modern art where the eyes of each individual will notice different images. Whether a landscape or fantasy world, the overall effect is pleasing, distinctive and completely original. Encaustic art will last a lifetime and longer. In the British Museum, examples can be found which are nearly 2000 years old!
